I’m so excited, I just can’t hide it -
It’s here! The next digital nomad retreat has finally arrived! 📿🌴🌏🙏🏼
We're going to... BALI!
Read more to find out allllll of the juicy details. I’m so excited!
You've had a nugget of an idea for a while now.
And in the last few months, you've putting that idea out there, slowly... bit by bit.
👉 On your Instagram, your personal Facebook profile and maybe on your website or blog, too.
But then, you get messages like these:
"Do you really have enough experience to be charging for that?"
"Oh honey, wouldn't a job with benefits be better?"
"You're just using your looks to get attention."
And the worst part? These comments and questions don't always come from strangers on the Internet... they come from the mouths of family and friends.
Arriving in Bali on November 4th, I had no expectations.
I just just journeyed over 30 hours to meet my PACK (of peeps) in Ubud, bringing my laptop and phone – AKA my business – in tow.
Maybe it's best to always enter a new situation with zero expectations?
Because what followed was a month of *explosive* surprises.
Here are my top three favourite moments from my month in Bali with PACK.
It was my first time, but surely – not my last time.
I’ve been in the freelancer world since 2013, and the digital nomad world since 2014.
And in all that time, I had never experienced a “digital nomad retreat.”
I mean, I've worked from some amazing co-working spaces in Nicaragua, Portugal and Australia.
But never had I joined in on a retreat – where all details are planned and taken care of for you.
So what is a digital nomad retreat, exactly?
I liken it to an all-inclusive resort.
My month in Bali with PACK recently wrapped up, and this – more or less – is the most common exchange I've been having post-trip:
"How was your holiday in Bali?"
"It was great! I was working too, but it was a nice working holiday."
"You were working? How did you get anything done in Bali?"
Hehe good question.
My short answer is this: time-blocking.
But if you’re an up-and-coming digital nomad yourself, you’ll probably want more details and strategies than that. 😉
Because yes, it's totally possible to take what would normally be a vacation and make it a working holiday – so that you're earning income while traveling.
Call it cliché. But I was inspired by Elizabeth Gilbert's 'Eat Pray Love’ when the book came out in 2006.
I read it as a teen (a few times), watched the movie when it came out, and then when life presented a fork in my own path, I chose the road inspired by her.
You can probably guess what was the catalyst.
A breakup. A wild, messy breakup.
At the time, I had just quit my 9-5 job, and was focusing full-time on my new business Canupy.
I'm not gonna sugarcoat things – it was a ROUGH time. It felt like everything was crashing down at once.
We all hear these terms thrown around. It begs the question:
What's the diff?
I didn't know for a long time. And that's probably why I'd stare blankly back when someone would ask how my freelancing/consulting/"remote work life" was going.
I didn't know which category I fell under. (And at that time, it didn't really matter.)
I've had a couple years to marinate on these terms and so today, here's my best interpretation of them.
If you're like me, you've left your gift shopping to the very. last. minute.
But if you're here, seeking inspiration, it means you're lucky enough to keep company with someone who's either a full-fledged or an aspiring entrepreneur. Even better, they love to travel (this person sounds awesome).
Since I'm home right now for the holidays, I'd like to show you all the tools and devices I use to run a business while traveling – and hopefully spark a few gift-giving ideas for you.
Take a look!
