Want to grow your followers on TikTok? Here’s the truth: TikTok is absolutely booming right now – and so is organic reach on TikTok.

This means it doesn’t take long to get your first one thousand followers on TikTok…

But here’s the kicker: I’m going to share how to attract a quality audience that is actually going to care about your business, because what’s the point of being TikTok famous if there’s no impact back to your business?

Today I have just about 14,000 followers on TikTok, so I can definitely teach you how to get that first 1K.

I want to share with you my TikTok journey so you can see just how fast growth can happen…

I opened my TikTok account in September of 2019 and if you’d like, you can watch that whole experience right here in this video. 👇

That day I (obviously) started with zero followers.

I posted a couple more videos during 2019, but I didn’t really start to grow until I started posting consistently in January of 2020.

Within two weeks of posting consistently in January, I grew to my first 1000 followers on TikTok.

A thousand followers for just two weeks of videos – not bad, right?

Here’s what I’ve learned along the way so you can get your first  one thousand followers on TikTok…

How to Get 1000 Followers on TikTok

1. Be Consistent to Grow Your Followers on TikTok

The golden rule of pretty much every social media platform? Be consistent

For me when starting out, “consistency” meant posting one video per day.

Even if a TikTok video didn’t get a lot of views right away, I still knew one video could attract more views for weeks, months or even years to come.

TikTok isn’t just a place to jump on dance trends, or show your toned arms and glistening, ring light-lit eyes…

TikTok is a powerful engine for evergreen videos.

The thing that helped me stay consistent to posting once a day was thinking that every time I was posting a new video, it was an opportunity to attract new followers and that’s exactly what I saw as I was consistent.

2. Make Videos for Your Target Market on TikTok

This is important: Make videos for your target market, not for everyone who’s on TikTok.

By now you probably know that TikTok has a lot of users, but you don’t need just anyone following you…

You want, ideally, your target customer following you on TikTok.

When you’re finding trends on the TikTok or songs you really like, make sure you’re actually adapting the content you’re teaching or showing in your video to be specific to your target market.

If you want to get some ideas on what kind of videos you can make for your business, check out the video below where I have given you five types of videos you can make that will actually grow your business. ⬇️

3. Use Hashtags Strategically to Grow Your Followers on TikTok

Pro tip: Use the hashtags your ideal follower is already using.

I do find that hashtags are pretty robust on TikTok.

TikTok makes it easy for you to find relevant hashtags by suggesting hashtags as you start to type them in…

#Suggestions #Are #Gold

You can even see how many views every hashtag has associated with it.

Similar to Instagram where you can see how many posts are associated with a hashtag, you want to choose hashtags that are niche and specific to your follower – ones they’re already following.

Like Instagram, you’re going to fit your hashtags into the caption space. Keep in mind you only have 150 characters for your TikTok caption

Using a specific hashtag worked for me back in January when I used the hashtag #InstagramTips and that video actually got 40,000 views really quickly and now it has over 60,000 views.

4. Reply to All of Comments on Your TikTok Videos

As you start to post on TikTok, you’re going to start attracting people to your profile because TikTok’s trying to figure out what’s your niche, who’s going to be interested in your videos, and it’s going to start pushing your videos out to other people…

As people find your videos and start commenting, it’s good behavior on any social media platform to comment back

Be a good TikTok-er and respond to your comments! ☺️

This also helps with the engagement of your video, and if you’ve caught on by now, a lot of these tips are very similar to Instagram.

The TikTok algorithm is probably not that different from the Instagram algorithm. So all those engagement tactics that you know to work on Instagram, be sure to apply them to TikTok as well.

5. Network to Grow Your Followers on TikTok

My fifth tip relates to how you’re going to engage with other people’s videos.

As the TikTok algorithm gets to know who you are, your niche and the kind of videos that you like to watch, your For You page is going to be curated just for you.

Your For You page is giving you a hint here, like, Hey, here are the videos we think you’ll like.

So what I recommend to grow is to network

Get your profile around on other videos by commenting on the videos that are showing up on your For You page.

I know it’s easy to see a video that has 10,000 likes and be one of the thousand commenters and try to get your comment seen…

You could could comment on an already-popular video like that, but what I also like to do is when TikTok shows you a newer video that doesn’t have a lot of likes, with maybe zero comments, that’s a great video for you to comment on because you’re giving that video a little love and you’re doing exactly what the algorithm would like you to do: networking and commenting on the videos that it’s showing you.

6. Write TikTok Captions Strategically

Write your captions using keywords or phrases that your target market is using.

Hashtags on TikTok are definitely searchable.

But are captions searchable? Not entirely sure about this one, but I think it’s better to be safe than sorry, so use keywords in your caption that your target person is searching.

Again, you only have 150 characters for your caption, so it is best to make your caption short, sweet, and to the point so you have room left for your hashtags.

Bonus Tip: Add Text Titles Over Your TikTok Video

I’m going to throw in a bonus tip because you’re still with me. 😉

One extra thing I love to do to engage people on TikTok is this: add text to my TikTok videos, because they might not have the sound on.

I think the majority of people will be scrolling TikTok with sound on, but just in case, you want to add text titles over your video so you’re keeping them visually engaged, but more than that you want to make sure your cover image for your photo has a really bold text title.

You can edit all of this into your video, and I find that having a cover image with a bold text title is a really effective way to capture people’s attention.
